Have you recently adopted a Samoyed dog? Are you searching for just the right name for them? Then you’ve come to the right place!

It can be challenging to find that special name that’s the perfect fit for your dog. What happens when you run out of inspiration? You come to us!

We’ve done some research to help you find some great names that might fit your fur baby. But before we get to our list of dog names, let’s take a look at the Samoyed breed!

What is a Samoyed?

Samoyeds, also known as Smiling Sammies, are beautiful, white, fluffy dogs! Did you know these dogs were bred to be herding dogs? Who would have thought? These medium-sized dogs are related to the Laika, which is a spitz-type dog. The name of this breed comes from the Samoyedic people of Siberia. They are nomadic reindeer herders who bred these dogs for herding reindeer, though they’ve also been used for hunting and hauling sledges.

Samoyeds are known for being happy, good-natured dogs that have a very positive attitude in general. And they love their pet parents. They’re known for being highly intelligent, family-oriented dogs, who are also quite dignified. They often choose one person in their family as their special person; however, they are very affectionate with everyone they consider to be part of the pack. Samoyeds need to be part of the family and participate in family activities. This is what makes them the happiest. They don’t like to be alone.

The Samoyed’s coat is very thick and white. They have a double coat, which means they have an upper layer of fur and another layer closer to their skin in order to stay warm. Their coats are very thick, so you can expect plenty of shedding.

Because of their thick coat, Samoyeds require a lot of grooming. You’ll need to brush your fur baby about 2-3 times a week, or more.

An interesting note is that Samoyed fur can be used as wool! In fact, it’s a favorite of some weavers. It can be carded, spun, woven, or knitted, much like sheep’s wool.

These furry babies are known for being very smart and friendly; however, they do like to talk. Don’t be surprised if your dog lets you know his likes and dislikes! That means plenty of howls, barks, and more!

Because these are working dogs, they really need to have plenty of exercise. This means lots of walking and playing, otherwise, you’ll have a destructive, annoying fur baby to deal with. They like to dig, jump the fence, hit the trashcan and enjoy what’s inside, and more. These guys are also known for chasing squirrels, rabbits, cats, and more. This is due to their hunting instincts.

Training a Samoyed can be difficult. That’s because they are very smart and learn quickly. These dogs don’t do well with repetition. Instead, they need a challenge. They do well at agility and tracking exercises! They also enjoy doggie puzzles, hikes, dog sports such as agility competitions, and more.

When it comes to size, Samoyeds stand between 21 to 23.5 inches tall, and weight between 50 to 60 pounds.

These dogs are extremely loyal and gentle and are good with kids. However, these dogs do need early socialization to curb their hunting instinct and make them a better all-around dog.

This is a healthy breed, but they can suffer from certain health issues such as hip & elbow dysplasia, hypothyroidism, glaucoma, and more.

OK! Now we’re ready to move on to the list of Samoyed dog names we’ve gathered for you!
