Romaine lettuce is another healthy leafy green enjoyed by many people around the world. This lettuce is a little different—it’s tall, with dark green leaves that have a firm rib down the center. You can find romaine at the local grocery store, where it’s sold either as “romaine hearts” (the center portion of the lettuce head) or the entire head of lettuce. Romaine lettuce provides a rich source of nutrients—in fact, it’s more nutritious than iceberg lettuce. Romaine contains vitamins A, C & K, copper, potassium, iron, magnesium and more.

Can my dog eat romaine lettuce? Can my puppy eat romaine lettuce? Yes, both can enjoy this yummy leafy green! There are some things to keep in mind before serving your dog romaine lettuce. First, it can be hard for some dogs to digest. Dogs are not made to digest plant material. Romaine, or any leafy green, can cause diarrhea and gas if eaten in excess. When it comes to serving the lettuce to your pup, you can either feed it to him raw or cooked. The main thing to remember is never to add anything to the lettuce—keep it plain. Salad dressings and other additions may contain ingredients that could harm your dog, including onions, garlic and salt. Is it OK if my dog ate a lot of lettuce? No, if your pup eats too much lettuce, he could develop stomach problems and/or diarrhea. Only give romaine lettuce to your dog as an occasional treat to avoid these issues.

Thanks for all this helpful advice on feeding dogs. It is easy to assume that our dogs can eat what we eat, but pet parents need to be intentional about their pet’s diets. I have learned and still learning so much from this space. Pls, keep up the good work.
Thanks

I always hear about this romaine lettuce anytime I go visit the doggy care center but I’ve not really paid much attention to it. But since I better understand what it is now, I’ll get it soon and feed my dog and see how he’ll take it.

Your dog would definitely love it. If you even have a puppy, they will also enjoy the yummy leafy green. But try not to feed it too much and it’s best if you cook it till it’s tender so that it would be soft and easily digestible.

Plain lettuce? You mean I should keep it plain when serving it to my dog? My dog that can be very selective with foods. I think he knows what spicy foods are like and sometimes he just refuses some foods if it’s not tasty enough.
