Asparagus is a tall plant with spear-shaped “branches” and is commonly cultivated in Europe and North America. This popular vegetable is healthy, low in calories and contains many essential vitamins and minerals. They also contain antioxidants.

My dog ate asparagus—will he get sick? Can my dog eat asparagus? Yes, but there are some things to be aware of when feeding this healthy veggie to your pup. Before feeding asparagus to your dog, be sure to cut into small pieces (long pieces can be a choking hazard), and then cook it until tender. Dogs aren’t able to digest raw veggies—it can cause digestive issues. Also, be aware that the fern leaves of this plant are toxic to dogs and can even cause their urine to have a stronger smell. My puppy ate some asparagus, is this OK? Yes, asparagus (cooked and cut into smaller pieces) is also safe for puppies.

Oh my! I think I’m going to have a meltdown now! I actually got this bunch of asparagus for myself and I prepared it so I could eat while bringing out some for my puppy. You won’t believe that I only cooked it using steam and it’s not really tender. Not to mention that it’s quite long because I only broke it in half the way I bought it. Good thing my husband asked me to check online if I could feed the dog the asparagus. I don’t know what kind of situation we would have seen if I hadn’t checked. Thanks for this.

Jeez. I’m actually glad you guys did not go ahead with it. Dogs usually find it difficult digesting raw or undercooked veggies and this can cause digestive issues and more. And choking can happen as a result of the length because it’s a bit longer than their throats.
