We’ve done the research and found which foods aren’t safe, and those that are safe to help you keep your pup in tip top condition! One note—if you have questions about any of the foods on this list and need additional information on their safety for your pal, then be sure to check with your veterinarian. Should You Leave Your Dog In The Dark?

Some Things to Keep in Mind

While many foods are healthy for your pet and they’re listed as safe for dogs, it’s always a good idea to introduce a new food slowly at first. In beginning, you don’t really know if your pet can tolerate the new food, if he’ll like it, or even if he could have an allergic reaction to it. So, start slow by serving him small portions scattered throughout the week (about every other day or so).

Watch for any symptoms that seem unnatural for your dog and if you have any concerns, always check in with your vet

Watch for these symptoms—they could indicate an allergic reaction in your fur baby:

  • Coughing
  • Sneezing
  • Wheezing
  • Swollen, itchy eyes
  • Upset stomach
  • Diarrhea & nausea
  • Swelling of feet, face, or other parts of the body
  • Scratching and scooting their tail-end
  • Paw licking (which is more than normal)

If your dog shows any of these signs, please call your vet immediately. Your dog may have eaten something he’s allergic to and may need treatment right away. An allergic reaction can become life-threatening very quickly.

Also, keep in mind that dogs are carnivores and their digestive systems are not created to digest plant matter. To help your pup easily digest veggies, it’s a good idea to cook them first, then serve the veggies to your dog. There are some veggies your dog can eat raw, but most should be cooked in some manner, before your pup eats them.

I served my pup beans this morning and seriously he had been releasing gas ever since. Is it normal or is it a cause for alarm? Note that I am new to this whole dog feeding thing.

Lol. Sounds funny though but I don’t think that is a thing to worry. Yeah, we know beans can cause the release of gas even in humans so I guess this expected. I say you try to avoid beans for now and focus on healthier foods for your pup.

Wow. I say you stop feeding your pup beans now or only do that once in a while so his body can adjust to it with time and I believe this would help a lot.

Hmmmm. A very long list I must say. Really wish I saw it earlier. Just realized I am not supposed to feed my dog chili pepper and right now I’m seated here waiting and watching and hoping that it doesn’t get stomach upset.

Oops. So sorry about that. Well depending on a lot of things like health, breed, system etc, your dog may not get a stomach upset today.
