Should You Leave Your Dog In The Dark?

Napa cabbage, also known as Chinese cabbage, is a type of cabbage that originated in China and became more widely used in other Asian countries and cuisines. You can usually find this cabbage at your local grocery store—you may pass by it on a regular basis! The leaves are a light green, and the head is large. The leaves are longer than on a regular head of cabbage. Napa cabbage is full of nutrients including Vitamins C & K, B, and more.

Can my dog eat napa cabbage? Yes! He can enjoy this crunchy, healthy plant! Can my puppy eat napa cabbage? Yes, but only in moderation. If you decide to feed your furry pal cabbage, it’s best to cook it lightly first. Cooking is best because dogs can’t easily digest fibrous foods. In addition, cooking breaks down a substance called thiocyanate found in cabbage and related plants. Thiocyanate can cause thyroid problems in dogs. Be sure to not add any spices, onions, garlic or other ingredients (like salt) that can be harmful to dogs. What if my dog ate too much cabbage? Likely he would develop excessive gas and possibly diarrhea from eating too much of any type of cabbage.

I make some special vegetable mixture including napa cabbage for my dog regularly but instead of seeing my desired results, he mostly develops gas issues. Maybe I’ll cook them lightly as you’ve suggested and then see what the outcome will also be.

I thought cooking cabbages can reduce the nutrients or something? I want to start feeding my dog the napa cabbage but I wasn’t sure how so I had to come check online. I’ll write it down in my shopping list for next time I get the opportunity to leave and visit a shopping mall.

That’s not the case for dogs. Cooking it just lightly would break down toxins and also make it tender and safe for your dog to eat and digest easily without having any issues. Let him give it a try, I bet he’ll love it.

This is a crunchy and healthy plant and we as a veterinary doctor, I always recommend it for dogs. As long as it’s not spiced with onions or other spices and given in moderation, it’s safe for your dogs and they will enjoy it.
