Obviously, too much fennel can lead to digestive issues in dogs. When I travelled and left my dog with my amateur sons, I came back 6 days later to a very sick dog. My sons who naturally loved fennel thought my dog would share in their fennel love and eat it almost every day. I must say my dog’s system was definitely not like theirs. He was very sick. We had to rush him to the veterinary hospital. I don’t know what they actually did to him but he was fine and we were allowed to go home. Fennel is definitely not a good idea, especially if you won’t be there to monitor and moderate consumption.

Funny how I had a similar experience. Though I didn’t travel. But my son was feeding my dog fennel whenever he’s eating it without my knowledge. Turned out my dog is allergic to fennel and the result was not pleasant in any way. What really matters is rushing them to the hospital immediately if you feed them too much or they are allergic to it and are mistakenly fed.

I once saw a puppy eat fennel and it developed diarrhea. I guess that’s where I drew my conclusion of fennel not being edible for dogs. Thanks for educating me with this answer.

I don’t really know if my dog is allergic to fennel, but if I eventually feed him that, I’ll be sure to watch out for any signs of an allergic reaction or digestive problems. Though this is quite common with my dog.
