Do you enjoy drinking soda now and then? Many of us do and keep it on hand in our homes. Soda goes well with all types of foods and is one of the most common beverages when it comes to fast food. These beverages can also help when you have an upset stomach.

The Bad Side of Soda

While soda can taste very good, it’s not a healthy drink for us or our dogs. For one thing, soda is high in sugar. When ingested on a regular basis, soda can lead to weight gain and even obesity. Another problem with sugar is that too much can lead to diabetes, which is a common problem in dogs.

These drinks also don’t hydrate, even if they do feel refreshing at times. Another problem is that some sodas can contain caffeine, which is a known toxin for dogs.

What’s more, dogs can’t digest the carbonation in soda, which can lead to digestive tract irritation.

Caffeine Toxicity in Dogs

Many sodas contain caffeine, which is a know toxin to dogs. Caffeine causes a number health issues for dogs. For one thing, caffeine is a stimulant. It can cause hypertension and make your fur baby run around all over the house! Talk about zoomies!

Caffeine can also make a dog jittery and restless. He won’t want to sit or stay still. He may also pace or “talk” excessively.

So, it’s best to forgo your fur baby having anything with caffeine it. This stuff is really bad for his health.

Symptoms Your Dog’s Had Too Much Soda

You may notice these symptoms if your dog’s too much soda?

  • Weakness
  • Body freezing
  • Twitching whiskers
  • Drooling
  • Lack of focus
  • Back hair on edge
  • Head bobbing.
  • Other symptoms your canine companion could develop include:
  • Hypertension
  • Collapse
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Elevated body temperatures
  • Seizures
  • Blood sugar crash
  • Restlessness

Safe Alternatives to Soda for Dogs

There are several great alternative beverages if you’d like to share a treat with your dog. For instance, consider Bowser Beer. This is a drink that’s made in the US and contains no carbonation or alcohol.

As you can see, soda is a bad choice for your dog’s health. Instead, look for safe beverages for dogs. You’ll both be able to enjoy a drink together!
