Two dog cameras that stand out from the crowd are Furbo and Petcube Bites. We have taken the time to review these products to see which one is the best. Let’s take a look and find out.

1. The Design

Let’s be honest; it may only be a dog camera, but the design matters. You will have this camera out on display in your home and you want to make sure it looks good and blends in with your décor. So, let’s check out their designs and see which one you prefer.

Furbo

The Furbo dog camera has a contemporary design that means it will complement a modern home. It is white in color and has a bamboo wooden cover on the top. It almost looks like a diffuser with its curvy shape. It is 8.86 inches in height and 4.72 inches in width, with a treat tosser in the middle and a status indicator on the base. Overall, it is a nice design and it does not take up much space on a table or counter. It is made of plastic, which means there is a risk it could break if your pet knocks it over. This is something to think about if your dog is energetic or clumsy.

This dog camera is easy to set up. It only takes a few minutes to connect it to Wi-Fi with the touch of a few buttons. It works with 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, so it is a reliable connection.

Petcube Bites

The Petcube Bites dog camera is boxier in appearance. It is a rectangular shape, but slightly bigger with a height of 12.9 inches and a width of 7.2 inches. It is matte silver aluminum so it still has a contemporary design. What we like about this automatic treat camera is that it can be attached to a wall. This can save space on a countertop and give you a better view of your pooch. It is durable with a hard-plastic construction, so it should not be damaged if your furry friend gets excited.

Again, this dog camera is simple to set up with your home Wi-Fi. You can expect a slightly quicker and better connection with the Petcube Bites. It supports 5 GHz Wi-Fi.

2. The Video Quality and Camera Audio

You want to be able to see your dog clearly when you are out of the house. This can give you peace of mind and know they are behaving themselves. You also want to be able to talk to your furry friend and let them know if they are being a good boy or girl. This is all possible through an app on your mobile, as well as a camera lens and microphone on the device. Let’s dive into the video quality and camera audio specifications.

Furbo

With the Furbo, you can view a livestream of your pooch on your mobile device. The 1080p video provides quality images of your pet and you can watch them on your app all day if you want to. In addition, the camera offers night vision so that you can see your pooch when it gets dark and there are no lights on. It also provides a 160-degree view with the ultra-wide-angle camera. So, you will be able to see everything that your pet is up to when you are gone.

There is two-way camera audio to communicate with your beloved companion. Perhaps you are helping them with their training or praising them for staying off the sofa. Either way, you will be able to speak to your pet and they can hear your praise or commands. While some dogs can be scared of the microphone feature, most dogs will be intrigued and want to hear what you are saying.

Petcube Bites

There is no denying that the video quality on the Petcube Bites is impressive. You can view a livestream of your pet on the 1080p HD video. You can see all of the details even if your furry friend is far away from the camera. There is even a 4x zoom functionality you can use to get a better look if you suspect they are up to no good. With an ultrawide angle and 160-degree view, you will not miss a thing with the Petcube Bites. There is even night vision so that you can see everything in the dark.

In addition, the audio is fantastic on Petcube Bites. It has a four-microphone array and speaker bar. This helps to improve the sound quality so that it can be like you are in the same room as your pet. They will be able to hear you and you can hear them perfectly.

3. The Real-Time Alert System

As much as we would love to watch our furry friends all day, you have a busy life to live. The good thing about Furbo and Petcube Bites is that they can send you real-time alerts to your mobile device. This is going to let you know what is happening without having to continuously look at the video feed. Let’s have a closer look at the real-time alert systems on these dog cameras.

Furbo

The push notifications on the Furbo are basic. But this may be enough for you. There are push notifications offered when the camera detects that your dog is barking. So, an alert will pop up on your mobile device if your furry friend is speaking.

When you subscribe to Smart Dog Alerts, there is the opportunity to upgrade your Furbo. With this plan, artificial intelligence learns more about your dog. This allows you to receive more alerts. But you will have to pay for this and it is not included in the free plan.

Petcube Bites

Petcube Bites does offer more notifications that Furbo. It is able to detect motion or sound and send an alert to your mobile device. You will always know if your dog is moving around or barking. If you choose to upgrade your plan, there are more smart alerts that you can enjoy. But this will be your decision whether you are happy with the standard alerts or want to pay for more.

4. Treat Tossing from the Camera

Another fun addition to these dog cameras is that they have the ability to dispense treats when you want them to. Of course, this is an exciting feature for you and your furry friend. You can reward them and keep them amused during the day when you are not around to play.

Are the dog cameras different when it comes to dispensing treats? Let’s find out.

Furbo

Rewarding your dog for being a good boy or girl is very important. So, if your furry friend is being well behaved when you are out of the house, do not forget to toss them a treat. On the Furbo, you can throw more than one treat at once. This is something that you can do manually through your mobile app. You can fill the camera with round treats that have a 0.4-inch diameter or smaller. It is disappointing that the Furbo does not let you schedule treat dispensing. This means you always have to do it manually, which may not be possible if you are busy. In the future, this would be a good addition.

Petcube Bites

With Petcube Bites, you have a lot more freedom when it comes to dispensing treats. You can do it manually throughout the day using the mobile app and you can even choose the distance to throw it. For example, if your dog is older or lazy, you can throw the treat a short distance for them. If your furry friend is more active during the day, you can choose medium or long distance for dispensing a treat. They will love to run and catch the treat or find it if they miss. We also like that the Petcubes Bites camera allows you to schedule treat dispensing. This means your beloved companion can enjoy treats throughout the day to keep them amused. You do not have to be watching them all the time. They may even start to learn when they are going to be dispensed and have something to look forward to before you come home!

Petcube Bites can handle larger treats than Furbo. You can insert treats with a diameter of 1-inch or less. There are actually treat inserts you can use for different snacks so that you can fit more in. This allows you to offer a wide range of treats to your pooch throughout the day, as well as make sure you do not run out when you are away from home.

The Verdict – Which Pet Camera is Better?

When it comes to design, we would say that we do prefer the Furbo. It’s contemporary with the white style and bamboo wood, as well as having a curvy design. The Petcube Bites is a little boxier but the fact that it can be mounted to the wall is a huge plus. It is also a lot sturdier, so it will be better suited for energetic dogs. The most important thing about any pet camera is that it has excellent video quality and clear audio. After all, the point is to be able to see and hear your pooch when you are not at home! The good news is that both dog cameras performed well. They both offer 1080p video quality and night vision, as well as having a 160-degree view to see your pup around the home. But something that stood out for us was the zoom function on the Petcube Bites. This could be useful to get a closer look at your pup. In addition, the sound quality appears to be better. It has the addition of a four-microphone array and speaker bar for clearer audio.

The real-time alert system is a good addition to a pet camera. We would say that the Petcube Bites wins this one. It offers bark and motion detection so that you know when your furry friend is out of their bed and roaming around. The Furbo does offer bark detection. But you have to upgrade and pay a subscription to enjoy more benefits. If you are on a budget, the Petcube Bites is going to offer you more. The last feature is the treat tossing. While both cameras offer this function, the Petcube Bites comes out on top again. It has the ability to toss different treat sizes to your pooch, as well as being able to choose the distance. This can be fun for energetic pups that get bored during the day. Furbo offers basic treat tossing ability. You have to use small treats and you have to throw them manually using the app. But Petcube Bites offers scheduling for treat dispensing which is just what you need when you are away from home.

Overall, we would say that our winner is the Petcube Bites dog camera. This offers the best real-time alert system, treat tossing and sound quality. The camera quality is similar so you can still get everything you want with the Furbo dog camera. But we feel that the Petcube Bites offers you more for your money.
