When you have a pet and get attached to it with all your heart, you can let your guard down and start allowing more things to your furry friend. You may have a desire to treat it with something tasty and even share your own portion of the meal. However, it is a slippery road that will not lead to anything good. You should always remain its owner in the first place and stay responsible no matter what. Even if your furry friend looks at you with its big, beautiful eyes, begging for something tasty from your plate. You should remain steadfast and feed your cunning buddy only with the proper food within the permissible limits. You can read a soulistic cat food review to find more information about balanced food options for your fluffy friend. The same goes for dogs too. Don’t make any exceptions. The following pieces of advice will help you put your pet on the right diet and maintain its health at a decent level.

Should You Leave Your Dog In The Dark?

1. Turn a blind eye to the marketing hype

If you want to provide your pet with proper nutrition, you should never rely on advertisements you can come across on the Internet. It is worth studying all possible info about your dog’s peculiarities based on its breed, age, and activity level to know what you should look for. People who work on creating ads don’t produce the food. Their task is to convince you to give it a try. Thus, you should carefully examine the labels on your pet’s food and goodies to know the ingredients. The biggest amounts of components are always listed first, so the further the ingredient is on the list, the smaller amount you will find in the product. Thus, you can google the first seven ingredients to understand what the product consists of. Besides, you can type an ingredient in combination with “good for dog” or “bad for cat” and see the results. So, when you decide to purchase the best wet puppy food in the nearest pet store, pay attention to the ingredients.

2. Don’t feed your pet with shelf-stable food

Many pet owners often overlook red flags of why some food has a 12-month storage life. Manufacturers have managed to convince people that it is completely okay, and such products will contribute to your pet’s well-being. However, the truth is different when it comes to pet food. Such products lack live enzymes and are dead, in fact, since they are full of synthetic supplementation to meet the standards. Thus, such products are hardly suitable for your dog’s daily diet. We also consume such food only sometimes but not as a basic diet.

3. Add fresh products

Your dog should necessarily consume vegetables and fruits to get enough fiber and not to face digestive issues. If you feed your dog only with shelf-stable food, you should understand that high temperatures destroyed most healthy nutrients during the cooking process. Thus, everything your dog will get is synthetic analogs deprived of all nutritional components that can be found in fresh products. However, it is also important to be aware of vegetables and fruits that can be dangerous for your pet.

4. Don’t cook meat

It doesn’t matter whether you are a lucky owner of a charming dog or a cute cat. They are all predators that should eat raw food. Thus, you should better reject the idea of cooking meat for your furry friends. And if you are afraid that raw meat can be dangerous for your pet, you can freeze it before feeding your dog with it. If you opt for dry dog food, give preference to some holistic brands.

5. Choose green lentils instead of rice

In fact, your dog doesn’t need grains to stay healthy. Moreover, many of them are allergic to wheat. However, many vets continue to recommend boiled rice as a part of a healthy diet. But if you have noticed that your dog doesn’t feel good after such food, you can replace it with green lentils. You need to boil it as well, so you will not cut the cooking time. However, this product is rich in protein content, fiber, lysine, and some important minerals. So, you will be able to improve your dog’s diet and provide your pet with some important components.

6. Add MCT oil to the pet’s diet

As you know, fats are one of the most important components of a pet’s diet. And when it comes to the fats source, it is worth trying MCT oil since it is beneficial for an animal’s body from different sides. For example, it can help your dog lose excess weight, lower a blood sugar level, and support brain functions. When you go to purchase it, make sure it doesn’t have lauric acid among the ingredients. Bear in mind that it cannot replace Omega-3 fatty acids.

7. Don’t overdo it with feeding

You should create an eating schedule for your pet based on whether it needs to correct its weight in some ways. If your pet suffers from obesity, start feeding it a bit earlier so it can have time to “work out.” Pets that need to gain weight should get their portions lately before bedtime. However, it is a bad idea to treat your dog with snacks constantly during the day.
