Rutabaga, also known as Swedish turnips, is a root vegetable that originated in Sweden (hence the name, Swedish turnips). Rutabaga is a versatile veggie and can be cooked in a number of ways—you can roast, bake or even boil this root vegetable. They’re often used in soups and stews and have a somewhat peppery taste that’s a bit on the bitter side. Rutabaga is a healthy veggie and is packed with vitamins C, E, & K, fiber, calcium, magnesium, iron and zinc.

Can my dog eat rutabaga? Can my puppy eat rutabaga? Yes—this is a very healthy veggie for your fur baby! Your dog will receive all the health benefits offered by this root veggie—including cancer prevention, digestive support, and immune system support. Before serving rutabaga to your pup, be sure to wash it and peel it, removing both the top and bottom of the root. Chop it up into bite-sized pieces and then boil it until tender. Don’t add any seasonings or other ingredients that can be harmful to your dog. Once cooked, you can mash it and add it to your dog’s regular dog food. What if my puppy eating too much rutabaga? If your puppy’s eating too much rutabaga there’s a chance he could develop stomach problems and/or diarrhea. It’s best to serve rutabaga as an occasional treat and only in small amounts in order to avoid these digestive issues.

I’ve been thinking of the best way to include rutabaga into my dog’s diet. I see a recipe for that in this post. I’m so hoping my dog enjoys it.

Normally I do not like this. I can’t imagine how my dog would react to this when I add it to her food. She’s very picky with foods and can reject almost anything that does not catch her fancy. I guess I’ll pass this one and try other options she might like.

Hmmm, cancer prevention and system support? That sounds like something I need to introduce to my dog. I recently adopted a dog and the diet list I was given is majorly one that has to do with foods that provides such benefits. I’m just going to go over how to prepare it and also learn to stop adding any seasoning or other ingredients to his meals.

Same here for me. I’ve got a dog and 2 puppies and only one can comfortably eat anything given to her. When I feed her, I make sure to cook it until it’s very tender. Then give her in very little sizes. It’s a very healthy veggie and I look forward to getting all three of them eat it without rejection!
