There are many varieties of nasturtiums around the world, but we’re going to take a look at one of the edible varieties. One of the most commonly used nasturtiums used for cooking and medicinal purposes is the Tropaeolum majus, sometimes known as Indian cress. In spring, the young leaves and flowers are sometimes added to salads. Tropaeolum majus is also used for treatment of certain bacterial and fungal infections and more.

Can my dog eat nasturtium? The answer isn’t clear, but it’s probably OK for your dog in small amounts once in a while. Can my puppy eat nasturtium? Again, it’s probably safe for your puppy, but only as an occasional treat in small amounts. What if my puppy ate too much nasturtium? He would probably develop an upset tummy, vomiting and diarrhea from eating too much of this type of nasturtium. However, be aware that other types of nasturtium can be poisonous to your fur baby, such as wild watercress, etc. If you believe your dog has eaten wild watercress, be sure to call the vet as soon as possible for advice on what to do next.

On my next appointment with my vet I will ask him if my dog can consume nasturtium, he should be in the proper place to answer this question, and also tell me which what quantity will be appropriate for my dog. Why? He knows my dog better and also understands his health conditions better.

True! But if your dog doesn’t suffer from any specific health conditions, I think minimal feeding of nasturtium to him won’t cause any issues. But as you already said, there is no problem speaking to your vet first.

There has to be a way to cook nasturtium or a way to mix it so as to make it somewhat edible for dogs, not all the varieties of nasturtium will be dangerous or poisonous anyway.

The post never said nasturtium is poisonous (perhaps you should read again). It is safe to give it to dogs once in a while and not at all times.
