Can my dog eat mange tout? Yes! And what about my puppy—can my puppy eat mange tout? Yes! Mange tout is a healthy choice when it comes to your dog’s food and snacks. He can enjoy frozen or fresh peas, but don’t give him canned peas. These are high in sodium and are very unhealthy. Another note—mange tout are not recommended for dogs who have kidney problems. The peas contain a substance called purine, which can be harmful to the kidneys. What if my puppy ate too many peas? If your puppy eats too many peas, he could end up with an upset stomach and diarrhea. So, only serve mange tout in small amounts and only once in a while to avoid these issues.

I once gave my dog canned peas. His system received it poorly, he developed diarrhea. Since then, I have thought about not giving it to him again. But now, I think I will just give the fresh ones a try and see if it will be well welcomed this time.

Mange tout is definitely a healthy choice for dogs. I even learnt about it from my vet and since then I do feed that to my dog once in a while in his food or as regular snacks. It only gave him an upset stomach once and I think he ate too much of it. But apart from that incidence, he has never shown any issue whenever he eats it.

Nice, my own vet told me not to feed my dog the mange tout because she has kidney problems. This post even shows that it contains a substance called purine, which can be harmful to the kidneys. So now I understand better why the vet insisted I never feed it to her.

My dog loves this fresh peas, I know it’s not safe to give him canned peas because of the preservatives and sodium content which are not healthy for them. In fact, I don’t buy him any canned foods for health reasons. I really don’t think it’s safe for them.
