Ginger, also known as ginger root, is a spicy, fragrant root used in cooking and baking around the world. This spice also has medicinal uses, and is packed with nutrients including Vitamin C, potassium, iron and more. Ginger is known for its anti-inflammatory properties and is also used for those suffering from digestive issues (including IBS) and nausea. Ginger helps to reduce pain associated with arthritis and is sometimes used to improve cardiovascular health.

Can my dog eat ginger? Yes! Ginger provides the same health benefits to your pup as it does for you! But they should eat it only in limited quantities, as it can cause heartburn, stomach upset and even diarrhea. You can give your dog fresh, raw ginger sprinkled over his food, or even add some dried ginger to his dog food and homemade baked dog treats. Can my puppy eat ginger? Yes! Before serving your dog fresh ginger, make sure to remove the outer skin and then mince it. According to Dogs Naturally Magazine, the recommended dose is ½ teaspoon for dogs under 35 pounds (1/4 teaspoon for miniature breeds) and ¾ teaspoon for larger dogs. If your dog ate more than the recommended amount of ginger, then he could develop digestive issues such as vomiting and diarrhea.

I’ve always thought that ginger is too spicy and hot for dogs. I use the fragrant root in cooking because it adds flavor and a nice taste to the food, not to mention its nutritional benefits. But I never knew it would be safe for my dog too. Good I found this!

Yes, it’s very much safe for dogs. But if you ask me, I will recommend you give it dry and raw. I mean dry like when it has been dried and ground to a fine powder. It’s great when sprinkled lightly on their foods. Plus it really smells good.

Ginger will provide the same health benefits for your dog just like you. As long as you don’t make it a regular addition because doing that may not be all pleasant. It can cause heartburn just the same way some humans experience it following too much consumption of the spice.

If ginger is good for us humans, then it’s good for dogs too. Now I can feed my dog ginger without any guilt feeling, because I’ve noticed he loves it so much but I was skeptical of its safety for him.
