Tadpole water is nothing more than water that contains tadpoles! Frogs may lay their eggs in standing water, puddles, or even in backyard ponds. And thirsty dogs may drink it without a care in the world! But can this water make a dog sick?

Toads are different than frogs, but they also lay their eggs in water. Toad spawn typically looks like a long, clear string with black dots in it. The black dots are the toad babies, which develop in small sacks until they’re older.

Can toad spawn water make a dog sick? The answer is yes! The reason is that toad spawn contains toxins that are similar to digitalis. This is a chemical that can affect a dog’s nervous system.

Symptoms of Toad Spawn Water & Dogs

You may notice these symptoms if your dog drinks toad spawn water:

  • Shivering
  • Irritation of the mouth
  • Pain
  • Excessive salivation & pawing at the mouth
  • Incoordination
  • Disorientation
  • Anxious
  • Increased breathing rate
  • Seizures

If you notice any of these symptoms in your dog, call the vet immediately. The toxin in the toad spawn can cause death if not treated promptly.

Be sure to let the vet know how much water your dog drank and what time this happened.

The good news is that dogs can make a full recovery after drinking toad spawn water. However, the key is to seek treatment ASAP. You could save your dog’s life!
