Should You Leave Your Dog In The Dark?

While peanut butter contains healthy protein and fats, along with some important vitamins, some of the ingredients can be a problem for dogs.

1). Too much salt: some brands of peanut butter contain more salt than is good for a dog.

2). Too much sugar: sugar is another problem that can be lurking in peanut butter. Too much sugar can lead to weight gain, obesity and even diabetes in dogs.

3). Too much fat: many brands of peanut butter may also contain too much fat for dogs. Or they may contain palm oil, which can have a laxative effect. Too much oil of any kind can also lead to pancreatitis, which is inflammation of the pancreas. This can be a dangerous condition in dogs.

4). Some brands of peanut butter contain xylitol: this is a very dangerous ingredient for dogs. It is toxic for dogs and can even lead to death. Even just a small amount can cause a dog’s blood sugar to go too low, which can lead to problems with disorientation, vomiting, seizures, and even liver failure.

As you can see, some brands of peanut butter can contain dangerous ingredients that can make dogs very sick.

Safe Peanut Butter Brands for Dogs

While we started off with some distressing information about some peanut butter ingredients, there are brands of peanut butter that are safe for dogs, in moderation.

When choosing a peanut butter for your fur baby, be sure to stick with those brands that don’t contain xylitol. Also look for brands that have low amounts of fat, sugar, and salt. And you can even serve your fur baby homemade peanut butter!

You can also buy peanut butter that’s made especially for dogs! Here are some brands of peanut butter that are safe for dogs:

  • Buddy Budder Bark Bistro Company: this peanut butter is made especially for dogs and contains no hydrogenated oil, palm oil, high fructose corn syrup, stabilizers, xylitol, added sugar or salt! And it comes in three different flavors—all safe for your fur baby!
  • Poochy Butter: this is another brand of peanut butter that’s safe for dogs! It’s all natural and contains no preservatives. Just be sure to check the amounts of salt to make sure this is safe for your dog.

When serving your fur baby peanut butter, just keep the servings small. Then he can enjoy this yummy treat! It’s also a great treat for training or for covering pills for those dogs who don’t like taking medication!

I don’t see peanut butter as a problem for dogs. I give sandwich bread to my dogs and they enjoy it. Just that I am always extra careful when choosing peanut butter brans so I won’t be choosing one with xylitol.

Very important. Xylitol is no friend to pets at all – whether cats or dogs, so I don’t give any chance to having it in their diets.

I will be trying out a couple of these brands though. It was quite discouraging at first to learn that my dog cannot eat peanut butter. Thank you so much for the alternative option. I would be trying them out soon

Thanks for this. Too much salt is not good for even humans. Now I know this extends to dogs as well. I already have an idea of some of her foods that I just have to cut off starting from right now.
