Dog Eat Oatmeal Cookies

No, they’re not really safe for dogs to eat.  The oatmeal is OK for dogs—that’s not a problem. The issue is with the other ingredients included in oatmeal cookies. These include sugar, raisins, artificial sweeteners, and even chocolate. Each of these ingredients can be a problem for dogs.

Sugar, for instance, can cause stomach inflammation (as well as whole body inflammation), diarrhea, vomiting and even loss of appetite. This is because dogs can process sugar in the same way we can. Plus, sugar can lead to obesity, heart disease, diabetes and even more.

Raisins are very toxic for dogs. They can cause urinary tract infections, kidney failure, and more.

Chocolate is also very toxic for dogs, and it can cause some of the same issues as raisins.

Having said all that, it’s completely safe to give your dog oatmeal. And you can even bake him some great doggie oatmeal cookies! That way he’ll have a safe, healthy snack that’s good for him! He won’t know the cookies are good for him but will just enjoy their great taste!

My Dog Ate Oatmeal Raisin Cookies

Oatmeal cookies are not dog food and may contain additives. In large amount, oatmeal cookies is less harmful than regular cookies with chocolate chips but should certainly not be part of your dog’s diet. Plain oatmeal may still contain added sugar and acids that could impact your dog’s digestive system. Your dog’s health can be impacted by a ingesting a large amount of sugar and the associated carbohydrates. Carbs, gluten and lactose in large quantities can impact your dog’s skin and heart rates. Human food does not come with the same health benefits and can even have some toxicity for your pooch.

Peanut Butter Oatmeal Dog Treats

Here’s a recipe that sounds yummy—your fur baby is sure to love it!

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup oats
  • 1 egg
  • 1 over-ripe banana
  • 3 tablespoons peanut butter (this is safe for dogs, as long as it doesn’t contain sugar or xylitol)

Instructions:

1). Preheat oven to 350 F.

2). Mash all the ingredients until well combined.

3). Scoop onto a rounded tablespoon onto cookie sheet, then flatten with fork.

4) Bake for 10-12 minutes.

5). Fully cool before serving to your dog.

These cookies should be stored in an air-tight container. They will last about 3 days.

There you have it! We hope your fur baby will enjoy these yummy alternative oatmeal cookies! These are a healthier alternative to our oatmeal cookies.

Try to keep your oatmeal cookies from sitting in places where your dog can reach them. And if he’s sitting by your side as you enjoy a yummy cookie, be sure to have one of his safe doggie cookies ready to share with him!
