That’s where the Corgi Pomeranian mix comes into play! We’ve put together some information about these dogs to help you decide if this is the right dog for you and your family. Let’s get started!

What is a Corgi Pomeranian Mix?

The Corgi Pomeranian mix is a hybrid dog breed that comes from mixing a purebred Corgi with a purebred Pomeranian. The result is an adorable cutie you can’t resist!

No one knows much about the history of these hybrid dogs; however, we can learn something about them by taking a look at both purebred parents.

Quick Overview of the Corgi

The Corgi originally comes from Wales, where the dogs were bred to herd cattle. That’s hard to believe when you see a Corgi for the first time. These dogs are known for having long bodies and short legs. It’s hard to imagine them having the ability and stamina to herd cattle all day! What’s more, the dogs were bred to do this in all kinds of terrain.

These dogs are filled with energy and exuberance for life! Corgis are highly intelligent dogs that can also be a bit on the stubborn side. While they can make great family companions, these dogs have a tendency to herd other pets, kids, and even older adults!

The Pomeranian

The other purebred parent of the Corgi Pomeranian mix is the Pomeranian. These small dogs are members of the Spitz family of dogs, which includes the Samoyed, American Eskimo Dog, the German Spitz, and more. Poms are known for being small dogs that have very large personalities!

Pomeranians are known for having feisty personalities that go with all of their adorableness. These are highly intelligent dogs that can be somewhat stubborn and independent. Pet parents of Poms say the dogs definitely have minds of their own.

The dogs come in different colors, including red, orange, white, cream, blue, black, and brown.

So, with parents like these, how could a Corgi Pom mix go wrong?

The Corgi Pom mix usually stands between 6 to 12 inches tall and weighs between 7 to 30 lbs. They have a life expectancy of 12 to 16 years.

Corgi Pomeranian Mix Appearance

So, what do these little hybrid dogs look like? For one thing, they’re cute and adorable! However, there’s no specific standard for Corgi Pom mixes because they are hybrid dogs. That means each dog is a unique individual, with some taking after their Pom parent and others looking more like their Corgi parent.

Corgis are known for having long bodies that are low to the ground, with short legs. They have power, strong legs, and deep chests that are needed for running. They’re very athletic dogs.

They usually have a more pointed muzzle with erect ears. In this way, Corgis look somewhat like foxes.

On the other hand, the Pomeranian is a very small dog. They also look like small foxes with erect ears. The dogs feature a double coat that’s thick and they usually have a ruff of fur around their necks and heads.

So, the Corgi Pom usually resembles one of their purebred parents. But you can count on this being a very cute, small dog!

Corgi Pomeranian Mix Temperament

Corgi Poms are highly intelligent dogs that are full of energy! These little dogs are very busy and may have a strong herding instinct like their Cori parent. These dogs may have a tendency to herd young kids and other pets!

These dogs are more vocal and will alert their pet parents to intruders. The dogs will bark at any strange sounds and strangers, too.

Corgi Poms love their families and are wary of strangers. They can also be somewhat stubborn.

Are Corgi Pomeranians Mixes Good Family Companions?

Corgi Poms can make a great family companion; however, they’re best for families that have older kids. The dogs can have a strong herding instinct and want to bring order to small kids, other pets, and even senior adults.

What’s more, if the Corgi Pom is more like their Pomeranian parent, they can get snappy if they don’t like the way they’re handled.

Do Corgi Pomeranian Mixes Get Along with Other Pets?

Yes, the Corgi Pom can get along well with other dogs and cats; however, they must be carefully introduced first. Bear in mind that some Corgi Poms may try to herd cats. If you have a cat, she will not want to play this game. However, over time, the cat and the Corgi Pom may come to a friendly understanding!

Corgi Pomeranian Mix Food Requirements

Corgi Poms need a dog food that’s specially formulated for small, active dogs. They do well with dry kibble or wet dog food. You can even mix the two together. The dogs need between 1 ½ to 2 cups of food a day, divided into two meals.

Corgi Pomeranian Mix Exercise Requirements

Corgi Poms have a ton of energy! They will need between 30 to 60 minutes of exercise a day. This can be divided into playtime, training, walking, and more.

Corgi Pomeranian Mix Training

Corgi Poms are highly intelligent dogs that need consistent training. They need plenty of mental stimulation to keep their active minds busy! You don’t want a bored Corgi Pom, trust us!

What’s more, these small dogs can be wary of strangers. So, proper training and socialization can make them confident, well-rounded, well-behaved dogs. And you can teach them not to bark at anything and everything.

Grooming

Corgi Poms usually have a dense double coat that sheds all year round. So, it’s highly recommended that these small dogs are brushed every day. They will shed even more during the spring and summer, so brushing can help control all that shed hair and where it ends up!

Summing It Up

So, there you have it! The Corgi Pomeranian mix is a hybrid dog that’s a cross between a purebred Corgi and a purebred Pomeranian. We can’t say it often enough—these are adorable, lively little dogs!  They can make great family companions as long as the Corgi Pom mix has been trained and socialized from a young age.

We’re pretty sure that if you adopt a Corgi Pom, you’ll have a loving, energetic companion that will take you on many adventures!
