Corgis are lively herding dogs that also make great family companions! They’re adorable and full of energy. The dogs are also highly intelligent!
Some enterprising breeders have recognized the popularity of Corgis and have tried mixing these sturdy, strong dogs with other dog breeds, resulting in Corgi mixed breeds.
We’ve put together some information about the different Corgi mixed breeds you may want to consider as a family companion. But first, we’ll do a quick overview of the Corgi. Let’s get started!
What is a Corgi?
Corgis originally came from Wales, in the UK, where they were bred to herd cattle. The dogs are famous for their short legs and long bodies and for their athletic prowess. The dogs are famous for having the durability and stamina to herd cattle through all kinds of terrain and weather!
The Corgi is a working dog that is highly intelligent and happy, though they can also be somewhat stubborn. Even so, the dogs are easy to train; don’t be surprised that your Corgi still likes to be his own master!
The dogs also make great watchdogs and are wary of strangers. They will bark if anything is amiss. These dogs need plenty of training and socialization from a young age, and they can make wonderful family pets!
List of Corgi Mixed Breeds
Here’s our list of Corgi mixed breed dogs! How could you go wrong with one of these adorable hybrid canine mixes?
1. Boxer Corgi Mix
The Boxer Corgi mix (also called the Coxer) is an intelligent, energetic hybrid dog breed. The dogs come in a wide range of color variations, including brindle, fawn, and red. The Coxer has a life expectancy between 12 to 14 years.
The dogs tend to be very independent, yet adorable! And for this reason, the dogs usually don’t develop separation anxiety. You can go to work knowing your fur baby will do his own thing during the day.
One thing to be aware of with the Coxer is that they do easily become overweight or obese. For this reason, the dogs need plenty of exercise and the right amount of food for their age, weight, and activity level.
2. Corgi Rottweiler Mix
Here’s an unusual hybrid dog breed that’s a cross between a Corgi and a Rottweiler! First, consider the size difference. The Corgi’s small, while the Rottie is large! These purebred dog breeds also have vastly different appearances. However, the Corgi Rottie mix is an adorable hybrid dog.
The Corgi Rottie mix usually resembles both parents, having a nicely blended appearance. The dogs are intelligent, loving, and playful. While the puppies may resemble both parents, when it comes to their personalities, the resulting puppies may take after either parent. For instance, if a puppy looks like a blend of the Corgi and Rottweiler, his personality may be like his Rottie parent, or more like his Corgi parent’s.
The Corgi Rottweiler usually has a long, low body with the black and tan coloring of the Rottie. These are loving dogs that want to be with their humans most of the time. They also have playful, sweet personalities that make them great family companions. They also usually get along well with other humans and pets.
3. Corgi Husky Mix
Next on our list is the Corgi Husky mix, also called the Horgski or Siborgi (we like Horgski best!). These dogs are a mix of a purebred Siberian Husky and a purebred Corgi. The Horgski is a nice mix of both parents, and usually has a mischievous personality. The dogs are also playful and very social.
While the Horgski is intelligent, they’re also somewhat challenging to train. Their stubbornness comes from both sides of the family! These dogs are best for experienced pet parents.
The Horgski looks like a mini wolf, with multi-colored coats in shades of gray, black, brown, cream, white, and red. Some Horgkis also have blue or mixed eye colors, like their Husky parents!
4. Corgi Labrador Mix
The Corgi Labrador mix also called the Labracorgi (also called the Corgidor), is another adorable hybrid dog. The Corigdor is a mix of a purebred Labrador Retriever with a purebred Corgi! And we have to say this is an adorable hybrid dog breed.
Corigdors are friendly, happy dogs that are kind and sensitive to their humans. They are also playful and mischievous, like their Corgi parent, and make a wonderful family companion.
Corigdors come in a wide range of colors, including tan, brown, cream, black, and red. They sometimes have solid coats, but they may also include a mix of colors.
These hybrid dogs adapt well to apartment living and do best with an active family. Corigdors also make great watchdogs and love to play with kids of all ages.
5. Chihuahua Corgi Mix
The Chihuahua Corgi mix might seem like a strange hybrid dog but they’re really cute! Also called the Chigi, these designer dogs do combine the best of both parents. Chigis come in a variety of colors, including black, tan, cream, white, brown, or a mix of several colors.
The Chigis are known for being highly intelligent, playful, and loving dogs. They’re small and make a great family companion, even if you have kids. However, their Corgi side may kick in at times and you may find your fur baby trying to herd the kids to keep order!
These dogs can be stubborn and challenging to train, so they’re recommended for experienced pet parents. But these dogs are easy-going and have a feisty, protective personality like their Chihuahua parent!
6. Corgi Pomeranian Mix
The Corgi Pomeranian mix is another hybrid dog that’s a great mix of both purebred parents. Called the Corgipom for short, this hybrid dog breed is friendly and sweet. They are usually easier to train, but they are also more vocal than some other Corgi mixes.
Corgipoms are also adorable and have fur that resembles both parents. That means the Corgipom has a thick, double coat that’s long. So, this hybrid fur baby may take a bit more grooming to keep his hair free of dirt and tangles.
