What is Simply Nourish Dog Food?
Simply Nourish dog food offers a product line that’s sold by PetSmart. The company says their dog food provides all the nutrients and health benefits your dog needs from his food. PetSmart says their products only use natural ingredients without harmful additives, artificial flavors, and dyes found in other dog food brands. In addition, their products are made without fillers, soy, corn, or wheat.
Simply Nourish is manufactured by American Nutrition, and they have three locations: Hazelton, PA, Ogden, UT, and Woodland, WA. The company was founded in 1972, and they are a high-quality manufacturer that has consistently met the standards of the USDA, FDA, and the AAFCO.
The company sources its dog food ingredients, such as fruits and veggies, from local farms in the Midwest. However, the company’s other ingredients, including protein, are sourced from around the world.
While the Simply Nourish brand is sold by PetSmart, you can also buy this dog food at Chewy and Amazon.

Simply Nourish Dry Dog Food Formulas
Simply Nourish offers at least 25 different dry dog food formulas. Here are some of the dry kibbles they offer:
1. Simply Nourish Standard
The Simply Nourish standard formula is made with affordable proteins such as lamb and chicken. They also contain healthy grains such as brown rice and oatmeal. Here are some of the dry kibble dog foods offered in the standard line:
- Lamb & Oatmeal Adult
- Chicken & Brown Rice Adult
- Chicken & Brown Rice Small Breed Adult
- Chicken and Brown Rice Small Breed Senior
- Chicken & Brown Rice Large Breed Puppy
- Chicken & Brown Rice Large Breed Adult
2. Simply Nourish Grain Free
The Simply Nourish Grain Free dog food line is kibble that’s made without grains. Instead, the formulas use peas and potatoes, which are healthier carbs for dogs. However, these recipes have lost their appeal since the FDA’s report on the correlation between grain free dog food and dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) in dogs.
However, for dogs who must eat a grain free diet, there are some options available based on a dog’s age, breed, and life stage:
- Chicken with Peas & Potatoes Adult
- Chicken with Peas & Potatoes Puppy
- Chicken with Peas & Potatoes Large Breed Adult
- Chicken with Peas & Potatoes Small Breed Adult
The main issue here is that there’s a lack of variety when it comes to the proteins found in these formulas. But if your dog needs to go grain-free and loves chicken, then this might be a great option for him.
3. Simply Nourish Healthy Weight
Simply Nourish also offers a dog food line that’s geared to help overweight dogs lose weight by eating healthy, lean proteins and complex carbohydrates (such as brown rice).
Recipes may also include glucosamine and chondroitin for healthy joints, which is great for older dogs who may also be overweight or obese.
- Turkey & Brown Rice
- Turkey & Brown Rice Small Breed Adult
- Turkey & Brown Rice Large Breed Adult
4. Simply Nourish Limited Ingredient Formulas
Simply Nourish also offers a line of dog food formulas that has limited ingredients. These recipes are designed for dogs who are on special diets and need to avoid certain ingredients due to allergies and other health conditions.
These recipes contain one animal protein source and don’t include fillers, artificial flavors, colors, or preservatives. They also don’t include white potatoes and chicken in these recipes. And they do include non-GMO canola oil. Carbs can include peas, lentils, and other healthy options.
- Lamb & Pea
- Salmon & Sweet Potato Adult
- Salmon & Sweet Potato Puppy
- Salmon & Sweet Potato Large Breed Adult
- Salmon & Sweet Potato Senior Dog
Here, again, the protein choice is a bit limited; however, these recipes are still great options for dogs who have allergies, sensitivities, and other health issues.
5. Simply Nourish Source
Simply Nourish Source is a product line that includes plenty of protein in its recipes. The dog food formulas include a mix of high-quality animal proteins, with meats and meat meals that have protein as the first ingredient on the label.
High-protein dog foods are best for dogs that work hard, are extremely active, or that need to gain some weight. Simply Nourish Source is a great choice for dogs that need to avoid grain.
These mixed-meat recipes include:
- Salmon
- Beef
- Chicken
- Pork
Our Rating of Simply Nourish Dog Food
We give Simply Nourish 4 out of 5 stars. Why? Simply Nourish’s kibble product line offers plenty of choices regarding ingredients, life stages, and more. However, they don’t seem to offer a wide variety of protein choices in some of their products, including their limited ingredient and grain-free recipes.
However, their dry food does contain plenty of nutrients, lists animal protein as the first ingredient on the label, and avoids the use of fillers and artificial ingredients. For this reason, we give Simply Nourish dog food a 4-star rating!
We can honestly recommend this dog food brand for most dogs!
