Rockmelon, also known as cantaloupe or muskmelon, is a small round melon. It’s popular fruit in the U.S. and Europe. Inside, the rockmelon has a yellow/orange “meat,” which tastes somewhat sweet. These sweet melons are healthy and packed with nutrition, including vitamins A, B6, C & K, calcium, folate, magnesium and more. They’re also high in antioxidants that work to fight free radicals in the body, which protect against cancer and other diseases. Cantaloupe also has anti-inflammatory properties to help with inflammation caused by arthritis and other conditions.
Can my dog eat rockmelon? Yes! Can my puppy eat rockmelon? Yes—he can also enjoy this healthy fruit. Your fur baby will enjoy the taste and reap all the health benefits this melon offers. Before serving cantaloupe to your dog, be sure to remove the rind (outer skin) and seeds first. These are not edible. Then cut the melon into bite-sized pieces to avoid a possible choking hazard for your canine companion. Keep in mind that rockmelon has a high sugar content and is not appropriate for diabetic dogs. What is my puppy or dog eating too much rockmelon? He could develop digestive issues, including an upset stomach, vomiting or even diarrhea. It’s advised that rockmelon only be served as an occasional treat.
