Yes, the borage is not recommended for dogs at all. The pyrrolizidine alkaloids it contains can leave your dog with a problematic liver which can lead to more problems if not noticed on time. It’s just unfortunate that some pet parents who feel that a type of food good for them can be good for the dogs too.
This means my dog got lucky. I fed him the leaves once when I got the herb for my sick dad and my dog didn’t really react to it. Though this happened recently, I have not noticed anything different or sickly about him.
You may need to check in with the vet to be sure your dog is not silently suffering. The borage herb may be good for medicinal purposes in humans like improving the immune system, urinary tract infections, and the rest, we can’t really say the same for our pets.
Thank you for this! This is really helpful for me. I did not know that some vegetables are not edible for dogs. I used to think dogs could consume everything humans consume. Finding this at this time is very timely because I’m purchasing my own fur baby after this pandemic is over. I think I need one!
