My Dog Drank Kahlua What Should I Do?
Many pet parents love to have a glass of Kahlua once in a while! This is a famous drink that can also be enjoyed in other ways! But what happens if your dog drinks Kahlua?
Has your dog drunk Kahlua? Are you worried the Kahlua will make your dog sick? If so, then you’ve come to the right place. We understand it can be scary when your dog drinks something like this.
In this article, we’ve put together some information about Kahlua and whether it can make a dog sick. Let’s get started!
What is Kahlua?
Kahlua is a brand of coffee liqueur made by the Pernod Ricard company, located in Veracruz, Mexico. The drink is a yummy mix of rum, sugar, and arabica coffee!
Kahlua may be enjoyed on its own; however, it can also be used in other ways. For one thing, the alcoholic drink can be used in cocktails, used to bake in desserts, and even as a topping on ice cream, cakes and other desserts.
The drink is often mixed with milk, cream, coffee, and cocoa, too. And because the beverage is made with coffee, it does contain caffeine. For example, one 1.5 oz drink of Kahlua can contain about 5 mg of coffee. While that’s not as much as a regular 8oz cup of coffee, it’s enough to make a dog sick.
Can Kahlua Make a Dog Sick?
Unfortunately, yes, Kahlua can make a dog very sick. The reason is the alcohol and caffeine contained in the drink. In fact, alcohol poisoning is a very common problem seen in dogs.
Keep in mind the caffeine in Kahlua is not very high, so if your dog has one lick of this drink, he should be OK. A small dog may become a little bit hyperactive but should be OK. The larger danger comes from the alcohol.
