But can dogs drink ginger ale?

What is in Ginger Ale?

Ginger ale is a carbonated drink that’s flavored with ginger. It’s sometimes enjoyed on its own, or sometimes used with alcohol.

This drink was developed in Scotland back in the 1850s by Thomas Joseph Cantrell. He was an Irish apothecary. A “dry” version of this drink was developed in Canada by John J McLaughlin, who was a chemist and pharmacist. Today, dry ginger ale is the most common form, one which is enjoyed all around the world.

Ginger ale usually contains carbonated water, sugar, high-fructose corn syrup, and artificial and natural ginger flavor. It may also, in some brands, contain spices, fruits, and other ingredients.

While it’s often used to settle upset stomachs, the one downside of ginger ale is that it’s high in sugar.

Is Ginger Ale Safe for Dogs?

No, you shouldn’t give your dog ginger ale. This is because it’s high in sugar and artificial flavors. Some brands may also be sugar-free and contain artificial sweeteners which can be toxic for dogs.

What About Ginger?

Yes, real ginger is safe for dogs! In fact, if your dog has a mild upset stomach, you can fix him a small amount of ginger tea. This can be added to his food.

Plus, you can make ginger doggie treats for your fur baby to enjoy! In fact, here’s a recipe you can try for gingerbread dog treats!

Ingredients:

Instructions:

1). Preheat oven to 350 F.

2). Add eggs, oil and molasses to a medium mixing bowl, and beat until combined.

3). Mix together gluten free flour and spices in a smaller mixing bowl, until evenly distributed. Fold the flour mixture into the wet ingredients until a dough forms.

4). Flour the counter and roll the dough out to about ¼” think. Cut into shapes with cookies cookies.

5). Place cookies on a baking sheet about 1” apart, then bake for 20 minutes.

6). Remove from the oven and allow to completely cool on a wire rack. These can be stored in an airtight container for up to two weeks.

We hope your dog enjoys these cookies! Remember—don’t give your dog ginger ale. Instead, choose a healthy snack or real ginger for a treat and upset stomachs!
