While taco meat is safe for humans, what about dogs? Can dogs eat taco meat?

Taco Meat & Dogs

Unfortunately, taco meat is not good for dogs. It contains many ingredients, including onions & garlic, that are toxic to dogs. In addition, taco meat can be high in fat, which can lead to pancreatitis in dogs. The salt, too, is not good for dogs.

Symptoms of Taco Meat Ingestion in Dogs

You may notice these symptoms if your dog eats taco meat:

  • Diarrhea
  • Vomiting
  • Nausea
  • Abdominal pain & bloating
  • Loss of appetite
  • Lethargy
  • Dehydration

If you notice any of these symptoms in your dog, call the vet immediately. This is an emergency.

Be sure to let the vet know approximately when your dog at the meat and how much of the taco meat he ate. Explain your dog’s symptoms to the vet, too.

The good news is that most dogs will make a full recovery. However, the key is to get them medical attention soon after they eat taco meat.

And always keep taco meat out of your dog’s reach. Prevention is always the best medicine!
