Rolaids are a very popular remedy that many people have in their homes. When you have an upset stomach or acid indigestion, Rolaids can come to the rescue! But what happens if your dog finds Rolaids and eats them?

Has your dog eaten Rolaids? Are you worried Rolaids will make your dog sick? If so, you’ve come to the right place. We understand it can be scary when your dog eats something like this.

We’ve gathered information about Rolaids and whether they can make a dog sick. Let’s get started!

What are Rolaids?

Rolaids is a brand of medication that’s used to ease symptoms of too much stomach acid, including heartburn, upset stomach, or indigestion. The medication works to lower the amount of acid in the stomach, reducing symptoms at the same time.

This medicine can come in a roll (like candy) or a bottle; it’s shaped like a disk and is meant to be chewed before swallowing.

Rolaids contain the active ingredients calcium carbonate and magnesium hydroxide. These ingredients work together to lower the pH levels in the digestive tract.

While Rolaids are safe for humans (when taken as directed), what about dogs? Can Rolaids make a dog sick?

Rolaids & Dogs

The good news is that Rolaids are not toxic to dogs! However, they may cause some digestive issues that cause your dog not to feel too well.

Symptoms of Rolaids Ingestion in Dogs

You may notice these symptoms if your dog eats Rolaids:

If you’re concerned about your dog’s symptoms, it’s best to call the vet. Otherwise, you may want to monitor your dog. If he has diarrhea and vomiting that last longer than 12-24 hours, it’s best to call the vet. The concern is that your dog could become dehydrated from diarrhea and vomiting.

Treatment of Rolaids Ingestion in Dogs

The vet has medications that can stop diarrhea and vomiting. And if your dog has become dehydrated, the vet may give your dog an IV for fluids. The vet may also recommend feeding your fur baby a bland diet for a few days so your dog’s system has a chance to rest and heal.

Once your dog’s system is back to normal, you’ll be able to feed your dog his regular diet again.

The good news is that most dogs will survive eating Rolaids! However, keeping this and other human medications out of your dog’s reach is always best. You’ll both be happier for it!
