Funyuns are a favorite snack for many people, including pet parents. These can make a great snack during the afternoon or be eaten with a sandwich and more! But what happens if your dog eats a Funyun? Can Funyuns make a dog sick?

Has your dog eaten a Funyun? Are you worried the Funyun will make your dog sick? If so, you’ve come to the right place. We understand it can be scary when your dog eats something like this.

We’ve put together information about Funyuns and whether they can make a dog sick. Let’s get started!

It is strongly recommended to contact a Pet Poison Helpline or your veterinarian.

What are Funyuns?

Funyuns are an onion-flavored corn snack produced by the Frito-Lay company. The snacks are ring-shaped and look like fried onion rings. They were invented in 1969 and have been popular ever since!

Funyuns contain the following ingredients:

If you love onions, you may love this snack. However, people who don’t enjoy the smell or taste of onions will avoid Funyuns! While the snack is safe for humans (in moderation), what about dogs? Are Funyuns safe for dogs?

Funyuns & Dogs

We didn’t find much information about whether Funyuns are safe or toxic to dogs. However, these snacks do contain onion and garlic, both of which are toxic to dogs. In addition, Funyuns contain sugar, fat, and other ingredients that are not healthy for our canine companions.

So, we’ll have to err on the side of caution and say we don’t recommend that your dog eat Funyuns. If your dog eats one or two Funyuns, he should be OK. Some dogs may develop an upset digestive system, but this will be limited and the dogs should be OK.

If a dog eats an entire bag of Funyuns, we would highly recommend calling the vet right away. The more Funyuns a dog eats, the more onion and garlic he also ingests. It’s possible eating that many Funyuns could be toxic for a dog. The dog would also surely have a very upset stomach, vomiting, and diarrhea.

So, if your dog eats one or two Funyuns, he should be OK. However, if he eats more or even the entire bag, we highly recommend calling the vet right away.

Human snacks are very enticing for dogs! So, it’s best to keep them out of your dog’s reach. Prevention is always the best medicine!
