Why Do Dogs Eat the Crotch of Pants?

Why on earth would a dog eat the crotch of pants? Well, there’s some science behind this question! First of all, a dog may eat your clothing because it smells like you. Keep in mind that area of the body sweats and produces pheromones. These are attractive scents to dogs. Remember, dogs check each other out by sniffing their private areas! These smells are attractive to dogs, and it’s how they gain information about you.

Then there are dogs who may see you as their treasure. As a pet parent, you’re the most valuable treasure your fur baby has! For that reason, he may guard your pants or even try to eat them. He’s trying to get closer to you. While that sounds weird to us, it makes complete sense to a dog!

Of course, there are also dogs who just eat anything. This can be caused by medical or behavioral conditions, such as pica. Dogs that have pica may eat anything, including garbage, dirt, the crotch from your favorite pants, and more.
