While betta fish food is healthy for betta fish, what happens if a dog eats betta fish food?

Betta Fish Food & Dogs

The betta fish food doesn’t usually contain anything toxic to dogs. However, it does contain high amounts of protein. If a dog eats a lot of the betta food, it’s possible he could develop some GI issues.

On the other hand, if your dog only eats a small amount of the fish food, he should be OK.

Symptoms of Betta Fish Food Ingestion in Dogs

You may notice these symptoms if your dog has eaten betta fish food:

  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Changes in behavior

If you notice these symptoms in your dog, then it’s a good idea to call the vet. The concern is that constant diarrhea and vomiting could lead to dehydration.

The vet has medication that can end the diarrhea and vomiting. They may also treat your dog with IV fluids to ensure he’s rehydrated. In most cases, your dog should be able to go home once he’s feeling better.

The good news is that most dogs will make a full recovery after eating betta fish food! Even so, it’s a good idea to keep betta fish out of your dog’s reach in the future!
