What is Astroglide?

Astroglide is a personal lubricant that’s used for a wide range of personal intimacy purposes. The product mimics the natural fluids of the body and provides moisture to relieve vaginal dryness.

The product contains the following ingredients:

  • Purified water
  • Glycerin
  • Propylene glycol
  • Polyquaternium15

When used correctly, Astroglide is completely safe for humans. However, what about dogs? Can Astroglide make a dog sick?

Astroglide & Dogs

We couldn’t find much information on this topic; however, it seems that if a dog took a lick of the product, he would probably be OK. He might have some mild GI issues.

However, drinking more Astroglide could be a problem. That’s because the product contains propylene glycol, which is extremely toxic to dogs. However, dogs would have to eat 9ml/kg of body weight (4.1 ml/lb) to be poisoned. Astroglide doesn’t seem to contain that much propylene glycol. However, if a dog ate more than one container of the product, he could become sick.

Symptoms of Astroglide Ingestion in Dogs

You may notice these symptoms if your dog eats Astroglide:

  • Depression
  • Weakness
  • Involuntary muscle movements
  • Increased urination
  • Seizures
  • Low blood pressure
  • Cardiovascular collapse

If you notice any of these symptoms in your dog, call the vet immediately. This is an emergency.

Be sure to let them know the name of the product and how much of the Astroglide your dog has eaten. Don’t feel embarrassed about sharing this information with the vet. Your dog’s health is the concern here, not the type of products you use at home. The vet will be focused on helping your dog!

The vet will also need to know about what time your dog ate the product.

The good news is that most dogs can make a full recovery if they receive prompt medical treatment.
