Jerusalem artichokes, also called sunchokes, have been used as a food source in North America since ancient times. Did you know they’re not related to true artichokes? Instead, they’re related to sunflowers! These veggies are a tuber and grow in the ground, just like potatoes and other root vegetables. Sunchokes are sometimes eaten raw or can be cooked and served like baked or roasted potatoes. They can also be grilled or steamed—anyway you serve it, these tubers are healthy for you! Jerusalem artichokes are packed with thiamin, phosphorous, potassium and iron.

Can my dog eat Jerusalem artichokes? Yes! And what about my puppy—can my puppy eat sunchokes? Yes—your puppy can also enjoy these yummy, healthy veggies. Jerusalem artichokes are good for digestion, so your dog can enjoy this in his dog food every day. You can serve about 1 teaspoon (less for smaller dogs and puppies) of grated (or mashed), cooked sunchoke each day in his regular dog food. What happens if my dog ate more than 1 teaspoon a day of Jerusalem artichoke a day? He could develop diarrhea or other unpleasant tummy trouble.
