Southwest Airlines has introduced policy changes that will affect travel with service animals and other animals that provide assistance. Southwest Airlines will start accepting service animals that are registered before the departure. The airline will not allow any animals that are not service animals to board within the cabin, effective from March 1, 2021.

Southwest Airlines will only accept service animals and no longer transport emotional support animals. With these new regulations, Southwest Airlines currently accepts dogs as the customer’s service animals, as they believe service dogs are qualified to help people with disabilities to travel with their owners.

Emotional support animals are treated as pets and there will be charge before boarding on the plane. Only cats and dogs that are allowed to travel as pets. Those who travel with their pets must not sit in an exit row of the seats or a seat with no under-seat stowage in front of them.
