What Does a Shorkie Look Like?

You may hear the Shorkie called some other names. This can include the Yorkie Tzu and the Shorkie Tzu. They are likely referring to the same canine, which is a combination of the Shih Tzu and the Yorkshire Terrier. The Shorkie is a small canine for a family. They grow to around 6 to 14 inches in height, as well as weighing only between 5 to 15 pounds. In addition, the Shorkie can enjoy an average lifespan of 11 to 16 years.

Should You Leave Your Dog In The Dark?

They can enjoy a range of colors. This can include brown, white, black, blue and fawn. Of course, as a crossbreed, you cannot guarantee what this pooch is going to look like. Indeed, it will depend on breeding and their parents. They are not recognized by the American Kennel Club, but you will see them recognized by the American Canine Hybrid Club. This means that you can register your canine.

Do They have a Good Temperament?

The Shorkie is known for having a big personality for a small dog. This can mean that they can be sassy and bossy. Early training is a good way to ensure that you and your furry friend are on the same wavelength. But they do love to be a member of your family and they will enjoy spending time with you, whether this is playing or napping.

There are some things that you should realize about the Shorkie. For example, they can be difficult to train and this will require some perseverance. This is because they can be stubborn and have a short attention span. In addition, they can be a vocal pup. In other words, your Shorkie might bark a lot if they are given the opportunity. Therefore, some training can help to change this behavior.

Do They Need a lot of Grooming?

Do you have an allergy to pet fur and dander? Then you may be interested in the Shorkie. This crossbreed is referred to as a hypoallergenic dog. This means that they can be suitable for those that suffer from allergies. However, it is worth checking this with a breeder if you are purchasing a Shorkie puppy.

But the bad news is that if you are looking for a dog that has low maintenance when it comes to grooming, this will not be the Shorkie. They usually have fur that is straight, as well as being medium to long in length. This is going to require brushing to ensure that knots or tangles do not occur. This can become uncomfortable for your pooch. Thus, it is best that you brush your furry friend every day. In addition, trips to the groomers will be on the cards. This is recommended every six weeks. This is going to ensure that your Shorkie is happy and the fur does not fall in their eyes.

One thing to realize about the Shorkie is that they will not deal with extreme weather very well. For example, they will need a jacket during the winter months. Due to their size and coat, they will not be able to keep very warm. In addition, they will need help to cool down during the summer months too. Any skin that is exposed should be covered with sunscreen regularly during the day.

Do They Need a lot of Exercise?

Of course, because of their size, the Shorkie will not need as much exercise as other big canines. But this does not mean that this breed wants to nap all day long. It is important to take your furry friend out for at least two walks a day. This lets them expend some energy, as well as explore their environment. Therefore, ensure you make time during the day to take your Shorkie out for a walk or to your local dog park.

Do not forget to exercise your Shorkie’s brain too. You can do this by making sure they have some awesome toys at home. There are also treat puzzles that can make your canine think and use their problem-solving skills. Providing your canine with tasks around the house keeps them happy.

How Do I Find a Shorkie?

If you have decided that the Shorkie is the best dog breed for you and your family, you will want to know where you can find one. You can head down to your local animal shelter to see if they have a Shorkie for adoption. There are often a lot of crossbreeds in the shelter and you may be in luck. In addition, there are rescue organizations online that might be able to help you find a Shorkie that needs a home. These are both affordable ways to add a new canine to your family and they can be rewarding experiences.

You can also approach a breeder for a Shorkie. There are a lot of breeders that offer designer dogs and this can include Shorkie puppies. Some people prefer to get a dog when they are young so that they can train and socialize them the way that they want to. However, you will have to do a lot of work to find a good breeder. The last thing you want to do is buy a Shorkie from a puppy mill. Instead, you will have to spend time researching online to find someone that is experienced and cares about their dogs. Indeed, you may find that the Shorkie has a high price tag.
