Over the centuries this part of Europe was invaded time and again by the Mongols and Ottomans. Later, Hungary became a part of the Habsburg Empire in the early 18th century. Hungary remained a part of the Habsburg Empire until after WWI, when it gained independence. Today, Hungary is still an independent country, and is now part of the European Union (EU).

  • Pecs: is a small city in southern Hungary, which is famous for it’s lovely main square, which is called Szechenyi Ter. Here, you’ll find a mosque that was built in the 16th century, which has since been converted into a church back in 1702 by the Habsburgs.
