The Saint Bernard Border Collie mix is a hybrid dog breed that results from crossing a purebred Saint Bernard with a purebred Border Collie! The result is a stunning hybrid dog that has the mixed traits of both purebred parents.

We couldn’t find information about the history of the Saint Bernard Border Collie mix; however, we can learn about these dogs by taking a look at two purebred parents of these dogs.

Quick Overview of the Saint Bernard

The Saint Bernard originally came from Switzerland. The dogs were developed by monks that lived near the Saint Bernard Pass in the Swiss Alps. It’s thought the dogs were probably a mix of several dog breeds, including the Bernese Mountain Dog, Entlebucher Cattle Dog, and others. These were all large dog breeds that were bred for herding sheep. No one’s sure when the Saint Bernards were bred by the monks; however, there were dogs there in 1695 that strongly resembled today’s Saint Bernard.

The Saint Bernard was used to help find and guide pilgrims who became lost at the pass. However, the dogs did not carry barrels of hard alcohol under their chins! Today, Saint Bernards have become beloved family companions. The dogs are known for being highly intelligent, kind, gentle, and sweet-natured. They’re great for families that have kids, too.

The Border Collie

The Border Collie is beautiful black and white dog that originally came from Scotland and England. They were bred to herd sheep and still do this work today. The dogs are highly energetic and have the stamina to herd sheep all day across various types of terrain. This is a dog that has a very strong work ethic and he’s happiest when he has a job to do.

The Border Collie is a highly intelligent dog that’s eager to please. These traits make the dogs easy to train. However, they must be properly trained and socialized from a young age. The dogs are great for active families and they excel at dog sports and other competitions.

With parents like this, how could a Bernard Border Collie go wrong? They’re a wonderful mix of the Saint Bernard and Border Collie.

The Bernard Border Collie usually stands between 20 to 35 inches tall and weighs between 45 to 120 lbs. They have a life expectancy of 9 to 12 years.

Bernard Border Collie Mix Food Requirements

The Bernard Border Collie mix needs about 3 cups of dog food a day, divided between two meals. They thrive on dog food that’s specifically formulated for large, active dog breeds.

Bernard Border Collie Mix Exercise Requirements

The Bernard Border Collie hybrid mix has a moderate amount of energy. These dogs do best in homes that have large backyards. Plus, they also require plenty of mental stimulation.

The dogs enjoy being active and excel at obedience and agility competitions. In addition, these dogs need to live in a place where the weather is not too hot or cold.

Grooming

Bernard Border Collie mixes do shed moderately. And like their Saint Bernard parent, these dogs may drool.

Because these dogs have thick, dense coats, they need to be brushed about once a day. This keeps their fur clean and free of tangles. It’s also a great way to control shedding. When you brush your fur baby regularly, that means you won’t have to deal with as much shed fur all over the house and your clothes.

We’re pretty sure if you adopt a Bernard Border Collie mix, you’ll have a loving, large dog to play with for years to come!
