Are you looking for a unique dog to adopt? Then why not consider a French Bulldog Pitbull mix? You may not be familiar with this dog breed, and that’s understandable. This is a “designer” dog breed that’s relatively new.

In this guide, we’ve put together everything you need to know about the French Bulldog Pitbull mix! Let’s get started!

What is a French Bulldog Pitbull Mix?

The French Bulldog Pitbull mix is a fairly new hybrid dog breed created by crossing a purebred Pitbull with a purebred French Bulldog. These two dog breeds are very different; however, their characteristics come together in the French Bulldog Pit mix.

We don’t know about the history of where and when these dogs were first bred; however, we can gain some information about the mix’s purebred parents.

The Pitbull, also known as the American Pitbull Terrier, was first developed in the early 1800s in England. The dogs were bred for the vicious blood sports of bull- and bear-baiting. Thankfully these “sports” became illegal in 1835. However, then dog fighting became popular, and the Pitbull was back to being aggressive once again.

Over time, dog fighting also became illegal, and breeders were then determined to save the breed. They wanted to breed the aggression out of the dogs to make them working and companion canines. The breed then became noted for being strong, protective dogs that were also great companions for families.

Eventually, immigrants brought the Pitbull to the US, where the dogs became popular with ranchers and farmers. Pitbulls were put to work as hunters, guard dogs, and used to protect the family while also providing companionship. This dog breed was first recognized by the AKC in the early 1930s, where the breed was given the name American Staffordshire Terrier.

As you’ve probably guessed, the French Bulldog Pitbull mix’s other parent is the adorable French Bulldog! Just like the Pitbull, the French Bulldog also originally came from England. The breed was created to be a toy-sized version of the Bulldog. Lace makers in the city of Nottingham were especially fond of these dogs. When some of these people moved to France, they took their dogs with them!

The French Bulldog became a hit in Europe and eventually became adored in the US, too. The first French Bulldog in the US was a dog at the Westminster Kennel Club show in 1896. From there, the breed became nicknamed “Frenchie,” and they’re still called that name today!

So, the French Bulldog Pitbull mix has some very long bloodlines coming all the way back from England! How cool is that?

The French Bulldog Pitbull mix is a hybrid mix of two purebred parents. The puppies born from this mix are hybrids because they receive some of their genes from each parent. However, no hybrid puppy is exactly a 50/50 mixture of his parents.

Puppies may end up with a jumble of genes from both parents. That means puppies in the same litter may not even look similar! They may also have completely different personalities. It all depends on the specific genes inherited from their parents.

Some puppies may more strongly resemble their Pitbull parent, while others look more like their French Bulldog parent. And then there may be puppies that have a strong resemblance to both parents!

No matter what, the puppies of a French Bulldog Pitbull mix are adorable!

French Bulldog Pitbull Mix Appearance

So, what does a French Bulldog Pitbull mix look like? Well, here, again, we’ll have to consider the appearance of the dog’s purebred parents. There are no standards for this hybrid dog breed because the puppies can range widely in appearance.

When it comes to the French Bulldog, most people are quite familiar with the breed’s bat-like ears and “squished in” faces. These adorable small dogs are so cute! These small dogs usually have a sturdy, strong build with powerful muscles. The dogs are usually between 11 to 13 inches tall and weigh between 16 to 28 lbs. Many of them also have wrinkled skin across their bodies.

Frenchies come in colors such as fawn, cream, and white; however, they may also be brindle and have a black mask across the face. These dogs have big brown eyes and smooth, shiny coats.

On the other hand, Pitbulls are known for being beautiful, athletic, muscular dogs. The dogs have a square head, almond-shaped eyes, strong jaws, and a large nose. They also have shiny, smooth, short coats with long, straight tails. In addition, the Pitbull’s ears are rose-shaped.

Pitbulls are larger than Frenchies, standing between 18 to 19 inches tall and weighing between 30 to 85 lbs.

So, what do French Bulldog Pitbull mixes look like? These dogs usually have a body that’s more similar to their Pitbull parents. However, their faces may be a mix of the French Bulldog and the Pitbull. However, they can also strongly resemble either parent.

It’s also possible a French Bulldog Pitbull mix could have large ears with the markings of a Pitbull. The coat may also be shorter, like their Pitbull parents. However, remember that the breed is a hybrid mix of two purebred parents. The breed’s appearance can vary widely, depending on the specific genes a puppy inherits.

When it comes to their size, French Bulldog Pitbull mixes are usually between 30 to 40 lbs, with males being larger. They may stand between 14 to 19 inches tall.

French Bulldog Pitbull Mix Temperament & Personality

Now, you may be wondering about the temperament & personality of the French Bulldog Pitbull mix. Again, that usually depends on the genes a dog inherits from his parent. However, we can get some idea about these aspects from the dog’s parents.

French Bulldogs are known for being the clown and wanting attention. They’re friendly and filled with energy, too! Along with these attributes, Frenchies are loyal and affectionate to their families. These dogs love to play, yet they are usually pretty relaxed.

Make no mistake about these dogs! While they can be somewhat silly, they’re extremely intelligent. They’re so smart; however, French Bulldogs can be a little on the stubborn side.

Frenchies also need to be with their families. These dogs don’t do well when left alone for long periods and may develop separation anxiety. This may lead the dog to become destructive or develop other unwanted behaviors. These dogs do get along well with must about everyone, though! They’re great with kids, too. However, French Bulldogs are known to sometimes be territorial and protective of their humans, especially when other dogs are around.

These dogs make great companions and have gentle natures. For pet parents who are home most of the time, your Frenchie will be happy to stay by your side throughout the day. You can count on many years of companionship and love from one of these small dogs!

When it comes to Pitbulls, they can make excellent companions when properly socialized and trained. Dogs who are trained and socialized even make great companions for kids. They are loving and gentle with their families and may like anyone who comes along. For this reason, the dogs don’t make good watchdogs. Pitbull dogs are very loyal and devoted to their humans; some have even been known to give their lives protecting their loved ones.

Pitbulls are extremely intelligent, like Frenchies. They learn cues quickly. They also seem to love life and want to be involved with whatever their family’s up to! For these reasons, the dogs don’t do well when left alone for long periods. They may become aggressive and destructive or develop other undesirable traits.

So, what could a French Bulldog Pitbull mix be like? Well, he could be a wonderful mix of his parents, with tons of energy and friendliness oozing from his body! They’re usually very loyal and affectionate with their humans; however, this hybrid dog breed requires plenty of attention like their purebred parents. They, too, have a tendency to develop separation anxiety if left alone for too long.

French Bulldog Pitbull mixes are going to be the life of the party! They do best with families who appreciate their personality quirks and who know how to handle dogs of this type.

When it comes to appearance, these dogs may have black, brown, or blue eyes, with black or brown noses. Their ears may be bat-like and stand upright.

Finally, remember that each puppy and dog has their own personality and appearance. Each one is a unique creation! While they may inherit certain traits from their parents, a puppy needs to also be treasured for who he is. These dogs also require proper training and socializing (we’ll talk more about this later).

Health Issues with French Bulldog Pitbull Mixes

These hybrid dogs are usually pretty healthy; however, their genetics does make them prone to some of the same diseases as their purebred French Bulldog and Pitbull parents. French Bulldog Pitbull mixes may develop the following health issues:

One of the best ways to keep your dog healthy is through regular vet checkups. Checkups allow the vet to become familiar with your dog’s health, making it easier to spot anything that’s out of the normal. The earlier a health condition is diagnosed and treated, the easier it is to cure. However, just the opposite is also true.

Health issues that are not treated right away may turn into more serious illnesses. The end result could be death. So, regular checkups with the vet are crucial to your fur baby’s health and wellbeing.

If you’re worried your canine companion could develop a serious health problem, then you may want to consider purchasing pet health insurance. Today, there are pet health insurance policies that cover just about everything, including checkups, treatment, routine vaccinations, and more.

You won’t be left alone to financially manage your pet’s serious health condition with pet health insurance. So, having pet health pet insurance can be a good idea.

French Bulldog Pitbull Diet & Nutrition

What does a French Bulldog Pitbull need when it comes to nutrition and diet? These hybrid dogs do best on a high protein diet. Look for dog foods recommended by the AAFCO (American Feed Control Officials) and dog food that lists meat as the first ingredient on the label.

French Bulldog Pitbull mixes love to eat chicken, lamb, turkey, beef, fish, yogurt (if they’re not lactose intolerant or allergic to dairy), and cooked eggs. These are healthy protein sources for your hybrid fur baby. Balanced, healthy dog food also contains carbs (from oats, brown rice, etc.), along with healthy fats (from meat or vegetable sources), minerals, water, and vitamins.

In addition, be sure to find a dog food that’s formulated for energetic medium-sized dogs. If you’re not sure what food is best for your canine companion, it’s always a good idea to check with the breeder or vet. They’ll have knowledge of the breed and what dog food is best for these lively dogs!

For most French Bulldog Pitbulls, they’ll need about 2-3 cups of food a day, spread between 2-3 meals a day.

French Bulldog Pitbull Mix Exercise Requirements

French Bulldog Pitbull mixes have a lot of energy, and they’re very muscular. So, expect to exercise your fur baby for at least 30 to 60 minutes a day. This may include a mix of walking, playtime, and training. The goal is to keep your dog fit and wear off excess energy.

One more thing to keep in mind with these dogs is that some have trouble breathing. So, be sure not to over-exercise your dog and avoid strenuous exercise on hot, humid days.

French Bulldog Pitbull Training & Socializing

French Bulldog Pitbull mixes are easy to train; however, they do get some stubbornness from both parents. This can make them a little more challenging to train. The dogs are not the best choice for inexperienced pet parents.

What’s more, training and socializing should be started when these dogs are puppies. With exercise and socialization, French Bulldog Pitbull mixes make wonderful, well-rounded, happy dogs!

Summing It Up

French Bulldog Pitbull mixes can make wonderful family companions. They’re loving, loyal, and affectionate, as well as eager to please.

If you adopt one of these beauties, be sure to stay consistent with their training and socialization. The result will be a very unique, beautiful dog who loves to be with you. You’ll have a companion to have fun with for years to come!
